    2. General Introduction

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE) was established on October 27th, 1976 by Decision No. 426/T.TG, signed by the Prime Minister.


HCMUE consists of 22 departments, 12 centers, 1 institute, 1 high school, 14 offices, departments and divisions, and 1 publishing house. The university has 05 campuses and a
dormitory holding more than 1,500 students.


In 2023, the university has 43 disciplines at the undergraduate level and 37 at the post-graduate level. The total number of students is over 25.000 including more than 100 foreign students. The total number of staff is 791.

  1. Historical Development

Before 1975, it was the Faculty of Pedagogy, Saigon University, which was founded in 1957. In 1995, HCMUE used to be a member of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.

In 1999, the Government decided to separate HCMUE from Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City to establish a national key teacher education institution of Vietnam in southern Vietnam.


At present, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education is a national key teacher education university in Vietnam. Our mission is to provide high-quality human resources, especially in the field of teacher education, to the provinces in the South of Vietnam as well as the whole country.

Our vision is to become a highly prestigious university on par with other higher education institutions in Southeast Asia by the year 2030.


 

  1. Introduction about training system


Undergraduate:
- HCMUE consists of 22 departments (43 disciplines) for bachelor degree; each with its own department and staff: Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Linguistics and Literature, History, Geography, English, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Political Education, Psychology, Primary Education, Early Childhood Education, National Defense Education, Special Education, Physical Education, and Educational Sciences.


- HCMUE has two kinds of training: teachers education orientation (students are educated to become teachers) and non-teachers education orientation (students are train to become bachelors of natural sciences, bachelors of foreign languages or social sciences and work for companies or business organizations).

International Cooperation

HCMUE has established international cooperation with over 100 universities and institutes, organizations, none-government organizations and companies in more than 30 countries. Many successful collaborative agreements have been developed between international universities and organizations and HCMUE in undergraduate and post-graduate training. The university has sent many lecturers to teach Vietnamese Language and Culture, Mathematics, Physics, Special Education, Literature at partners’ universities. Besides, the university has received many international lecturers and students to teach and study at the university. In addition, the universities have held a lot of international seminars, trainings courses and workshops which attracted a lot of international participants.


International cooperation covers the following issues:
· Higher education for teachers and students to get Master’s and Doctoral degrees;

  • Joint-training and joint-research;
    · Faculty and Student Exchanges;
    · Organization of international conferences and workshops;
    · Organization of short-term training courses for foreign languages teachers, research on teaching resources and materials;
    · Teaching short-term course and long-term courses in Vietnamese Language, Vietnamese Culture and Vietnamese Studies for foreigners;
    · Scientific material exchange, facility supply.

 

In the future, the university hopes to maintain and develop further official cooperation, and expand the diversity of cooperation with universities and organizations all over the world.
